Nurturing your dog

Nurture is here for you and your dog as they journey through adulthood. Part of helping pets to live well includes tailoring the care we offer to suit their life stage as well as their individual needs; take a look below at how we can help your dog live their best life with you.

Connect with us

Nurture is an accredited Dog Friendly Clinic and the best environment to support your dog’s health journey. Our team of dog advocates meet regularly to ensure we’re always providing the very best care – meet our dog-loving team.

If your dog is nervous, we encourage you to pop them in regularly just for a weight check and some fuss from our team, helping them form a positive association here with us.

Adulthood: 1 – 6 years

Between the ages of 1 and 6, your adult dog will need slightly different care to when they were a puppy. Keeping them fit with regular exercise and good quality nutrition that supports their body & mind are the building blocks of a healthy dog. We can help you with this and many other factors that will nourish them too.

Book your dog’s care

Regular health checks are important to help your dog maintain a healthy life. Our team will give them a nose-to tail examination, discuss your dog’s lifestyle and any worries you may have, and catch any concerns early on.

Keeping on track with your dog’s annual boosters will provide them with the best protection against some nasty infectious diseases including:

  • Parvovirus
  • Canine distemper
  • Leptospirosis
  • Hepatitis
  • Kennel cough

Nurture is passionate about people protecting their pets and families by using parasite prevention. Not only can parasites cause infection, disease and discomfort, they can also infest your home or affect those with a weakened immune system. We can design the best combination of flea, worm & tick products for your dog’s lifestyle.

Neutering your adult dog is a responsible choice for their health & wellbeing, and to prevent unplanned pregnancies. Trust Nurture with your dog’s neutering journey and learn about the benefits of keyhole procedures for female dogs in our care.

Before we book any neutering procedure, we will see you and your dog for a consultation. This is where we can run through the surgical procedure, and the care your dog will benefit from before, during, and after. At Nurture we offer pre-op blood tests to check there are no underlying health conditions that could affect your beloved companion’s recovery.

If your dog hasn’t been microchipped yet, we can get this done right away so you are compliant with the law and you have the best chance of being reunited with your dog should you become separated. A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and can be easily implanted during any vet consultation at Wells or Weston.

A healthy mouth equals a happy pet and regular checkups and teeth brushing at home will help reduce the risk of nasty dental diseases – we can show you how. Signs of dental disease to look out for include exceptionally smelly breath, discoloured or broken teeth, and red/bleeding gums.

Should your dog require any dental work, Nurture has vet dentists on site who can offer a routine scale & polish, as well as more complex dental treatments. At both our Practices we offer dental x-rays, which enable our vets to evaluate the type of treatment your dog will need more accurately before any dental work is booked in – learn more.

Our dog-loving team will help you achieve a balanced plan for your dog’s nutritional and exercise needs based on their life stage, their breed, and their health requirements. They can also help you understand the different types of diets and dog foods available and which would be most suitable for your companion, not forgetting healthy treats your dog will love.

We can offer advice on how to enrich your dog’s life through playtime, experiences, and human connection, to avoid common issues associated with boredom. Separation anxiety is also a common concern as dogs experience life without their favourite humans from time to time.

Talk to your vet about your dog behaviour concerns. They will check your dog for any health issues that could be affecting their behaviour, as well as offer advise and recommend if your dog would benefit from seeing a dog behaviourist.

From diagnostic investigations and routine procedures to more complex surgical care, you can rest assured that your dog will be in good hands at Nurture, with our highly experienced & compassionate team and state-of-the-art facilities on site including:

  • A veterinary laboratory that can offer same-day test results in many cases
  • Non-invasive ultrasound & digital x-rays to help our vets pinpoint health concerns accurately
  • Laparoscopic equipment for performing keyhole surgery and diagnostic procedures

Before we book any procedure, we will see you and your dog for a consultation. This is where we can run through the surgical procedure, how they will be cared for, what aftercare they will need, and a perform a thorough examination, including a blood test if required, to ensure your dog has no underlying health conditions that could affect their recovery.
